Imagine Dragons Anti-Gun Violence Festival

Dan Reynolds of Imagine Dragons has proposed and anti-gun violence festival and several artists have already signed on.  Dan  writes in a Twitter post

“With the failure of WOODSTOCK I pose this question. What artists/speakers are willing to play for free (we get some corporate dollars to cover crew costs and travel etc) to put on a festival raising money for organizations that are fighting for new legislation regarding gun laws.”

“We are gonna DO this I promise you that. This isn’t political. This is a festival about our people being KILLED. It needs to stop. And honestly. It’s gonna take our artists and people of influence stepping up. Because lawmakers ARE NOT.”

I’ll be keeping watch on a date and will post it when I see it.

Bonnaroo…Sold Out

Rick Farman, co-founder of Superfly Entertainment who started Bonnaroo, wont be part of the Festival after 2019.  Back in 2015 Live Nation purchased a controlling interest in the festival and kept Farman on until this year.  Now it plans to purchase the rest of the festival from the remaining minority owners.  Going forward the festival will be produced by AC Entertainment and C3 Presents, which of course Live Nation owns.

New Festival in Vegas

Las Vegas has a new festival in town.  Day N Vegas happens for the first time this November 1 – 3 and will mainly have Hip-Hop artists.  Here’s the top 3 groups performing each night:

Friday – J.Cole (headline), Lil Uzi Vert, Juice Wrld

Saturday – Travis Scott (headline), Migos, 21 Savage

Sunday – Kendrick Lamar (headline), Tyler, The Creator, Schoolboy Q

Other artists joining in is Miguel, Lil Nas X, Brockhampton, Kali Uchis and many others.  Tickets don’t go on sale until June 28 but if you like, you can sign up for pre-sale tickets when they become available at: DayNVegas

For me, there are really only a few hip-hop artists in this Festival.  The rest are Soundcloud ‘rappers’.  I mean, there are literally 12 ‘lil’ rappers listed on the lineup.   Looks like its going to be a very young crowd.

Float Fest is Canceled

Honestly I haven’t heard much about this festival in Texas but it sure seems like a lot of fun. Unfortunately for 2019, the festival has been canceled. Festival Organizers had this to say:

“With weather, Gonzales County (where the festival is) saw an extraordinary amount of rain in May and June. Although the site cleared, the rain created delays of construction. We want to provide a first class experience to our fans, therefore we will be finishing out the site so that it is ready for the festival in 2020.” Float Fest

Chaos at Governors Ball Festival!

The Governors Ball happened this past weekend (May 31-June 2) and they had to shut down on the third day due to weather.  They checked the weather service and they said storms were being held off by a cold front.  Sure enough the weather came in and a lot of the third days entertainment had to to be canceled.

Here’s the statement by Governors Ball:

Music Cruise – Megadeth

This year during October 13 – 18, 2019 Megadeth will have its inaugural  MegaCruise aboard the Norwegian Cruise Line ship the Norwegian Jewel!  I can’t believe the lineup.  Imagine being on the ship with these crazies:

Megadeth, Anthrax, Testament, Queensryche, Suicidal Tendencies, Dragonforce, Overkill, Death Angel, Corrosion of Conformity, Devildriver, Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons, Doro, Armored Saint, Sacred Reich, John 5, Metal Church, Danko Jones, Beasto Blanco, Toothgrinder, Metalachi, Mecanix.

This sounds like pure debauchery and tons of fun.

Check out all the details with the link below.

Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival Set

The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival has finally announced when their 2010 event will take place. From July 5th – 11th the event will feature panels, films, theater and independent performances all throughout the week. Executive Director West Jackson says:

“We have been fortunate enough to host the Festival along the beautiful Brooklyn coast line since our second year [2006]. When the word came down that our home, Empire Fulton Ferry State Park was being closed for renovation we began to work closely with Regina Meyer and the good people at The Brooklyn Bridge Development Corporation. I am excited that not only are we returning to the Tobacco Warehouse for our Main Day, July 10th but have also added Brooklyn Bridge Plaza and New Dock Street. This increased space will allow us to produce two separate stages as well as build a large marketplace for our vendors.”

More info to come.

The Strokes New Album and Lollapalooza

Julian Casablancas recently confirmed that The Strokes will be playing at Lollapalooza and that their fourth album will be out in September. He says

“I’ve written a lot of melodies for it, but the other guys have also contributed a lot more: melodies, choruses, parts. It’s way more collaborative. So it’ll have a different feel than our other albums.”
