These are some beautiful lyrics to a great song. It’s the song ‘Landslide’ from the 1975 Fleetwood Mac album titled ‘Fleetwood Mac’.
I took my love, I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
‘Til the landslide brought me down
Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changin’ ocean tides?
Can I handle the seasons of my life?
Mmm
Well, I’ve been ‘fraid of changin’
‘Cause I’ve built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I’m gettin’ older, too
Well, I’ve been ‘fraid of changin’
‘Cause I’ve built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I’m gettin’ older, too
I’m gettin’ older, too
Ah, take my love, take it down
Oh, climb a mountain and turn around
And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well, the landslide will bring it down
And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well, the landslide will bring it down
Oh, the landslide will bring it down
Here’s a beautiful song by John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band from the 1970 album ‘Plastic Ono Band.’
WORKING CLASS HERO
As soon as you’re born they make you feel small
By giving you no time instead of it all
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
They hurt you at home and they hit you at school
They hate you if you’re clever and they despise a fool
Till you’re so fucking crazy you can’t follow their rules
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
When they’ve tortured and scared you for twenty-odd years
Then they expect you to pick a career
When you can’t really function you’re so full of fear
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV
And you think you’re so clever and classless and free
But you’re still fucking peasants as far as I can see
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
There’s room at the top they’re telling you still
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill
If you want to be like the folks on the hill
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
If you want to be a hero well just follow me
If you want to be a hero well just follow me
I remember back in my goth days, The Sisters of Mercy was always playing in my room. I really loved them. Here are the lyrics to one of my favorite songs by them. The song is ‘This Corrosion’ and was released in 1987 on their album titled ‘Floodland’
THIS CORROSION
Hey hey hey ye hey now no now now Hey hey hey ye hey now no now now Hey hey hey ye hey now no now now
Gimme the ring, kissed and told Gimme something that I missed (gimme the ring) A hand to hold, wild and what it seems (gimme the ring) Kill the king with love is the law And then we’ll turn round (gimme the ring) Gimme dream child And do you hear me call? (Gimme the ring) On the loan and on the level Still on the floor (gimme the ring) Sing dream child And do you hear at all?
Hey now, hey now now, sing this corrosion to me Hey now, hey now now, sing this corrosion to me Hey now, hey now now, sing this corrosion to me Hey now, hey now now Ooh ooh ooh Ooh ooh ooh Ooh ooh ooh Ooh ooh ooh
Hey now, hey now now, sing this corrosion to me Hey now, hey now now, sing this corrosion to me Hey now, hey now now, sing this corrosion to me Hey now, hey now now Hey Hey hey Hey Hey heyOoh ooh ooh (hey hey) Ooh ooh ooh (hey hey)
Hey now, hey now now now Hey hey hey ye hey now no now now Hey hey hey ye hey now no now now Gimme siren, child and do you hear me? Gimme siren, child, and do you hear me call? Sing, child, of right and wrong Gimme things that don’t last long Gimme siren, child, and do you hear me call?
Hey now, hey now now, sing this corrosion to me Hey now, hey now now, sing this corrosion to me Hey now, hey now now, sing this corrosion to me Hey now, hey now now
On days like this In times like these I feel an animal deep inside Heel to haunch on bended knees Living on if and if I tried Somebody send me please Dream wars and a ticket to seem Giving out and in Selling the don’t belong Well, what do you say D’you have a word for giving away? Got a song for me?

Hey now, hey now now, sing this corrosion to me (like a healing hand) Hey now, hey now now, sing this corrosion to me (like a healing hand)
Listen to the silence, let it ring on Eyes, dark grey lenses frightened of the sun We would have a fine time living in the night Left to blind destruction Waiting for our sight
And we would go on as though nothing was wrong And hide from these days we remained all alone Staying in the same place, just staying out the time Touching from a distance Further all the time
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio
Well I could call out when the going gets tough The things that we’ve learnt are no longer enough No language, just sound, that’s all we need know, to synchronize
Love to the beat of the show
And we could dance
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio
Joy Division is definitely in my top 10 most favorite groups. They were gone too early due to their lead singer, Ian Curtis, committing suicide the day before they were supposed to tour the US for the first time ever. The only good part of that is the remaining members went on to form New Order. Funny thing about that is Ian never wanted electronics in the band and New Order went on to be one of the biggest electronica bands. Here is their most famous song, ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart.’
When routine bites hard And ambitions are low And resentment rides high But emotions won’t grow And we’re changing our ways Taking different roads Love, love will tear us apart again Love, love will tear us apart again
Why is the bedroom so cold? Turned away on your side Is my timing that flawed? Our respect run so dry? Yet there’s still this appeal That we’ve kept through our livesBut love, love will tear us apart again Love, love will tear us apart again
Do you cry out in your sleep? All my failings exposed Gets a taste in my mouth As desperation takes hold And it’s something so good Just can’t function no more?
Love, love will tear us apart again Love, love will tear us apart again Love, love will tear us apart again Love, love will tear up apart again
It was in June 1986 when The Smiths put out their third album titled ‘The Queen Is Dead’ and track #3 was the great somber song ‘I Know It’s Over’. It was written by Morrissey and Johnny Marr during the summer of 1985 at Johnny Marr’s home in Manchester. Back in 2007 Spinner Magazine labeled it #5 on the Top 25 Most Exquisitely Sad Songs in the Whole World. I think its a beautiful song.

Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
And as I climb into an empty bed
Oh well. Enough said.
I know it’s over – still I cling
I don’t know where else I can go
Oh …
Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
See, the sea wants to take me
The knife wants to slit me
Do you think you can help me ?
Sad veiled bride, please be happy
Handsome groom, give her room
Loud, loutish lover, treat her kindly
(Though she needs you
More than she loves you)
And I know it’s over – still I cling
I don’t know where else I can go
Over and over and over and over
Over and over, la …
I know it’s over
And it never really began
But in my heart it was so real
And you even spoke to me, and said :
“If you’re so funny
Then why are you on your own tonight ?
And if you’re so clever
Then why are you on your own tonight ?
If you’re so very entertaining
Then why are you on your own tonight ?
If you’re so very good-looking
Why do you sleep alone tonight ?
I know …
‘Cause tonight is just like any other night
That’s why you’re on your own tonight
With your triumphs and your charms
While they’re in each other’s arms…”
It’s so easy to laugh
It’s so easy to hate
It takes strength to be gentle and kind
Over, over, over, over
It’s so easy to laugh
It’s so easy to hate
It takes guts to be gentle and kind
Over, over
Love is Natural and Real
But not for you, my love
Not tonight, my love
Love is Natural and Real
But not for such as you and I, my love
Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my …
Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
Oh Mother, I can even feel the soil falling over my head
Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my …

Written by Eric Clapton (help from Will Jennings), he wrote the song after his four-year old fell out of a 53rd floor window of a New York apartment building. It came out in January 1992 for the soundtrack of ‘Rush’. Apparently Clapton stopped playing it in 2004 saying he didn’t feel the loss anymore which was so much a part of that song.
Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven
Will it be the same
If I saw you in heaven
I must be strong, and carry on
Cause I know I don’t belong
Here in heaven
Would you hold my hand
If I saw you in heaven
Would you help me stand
If I saw you in heaven
I’ll find my way, through night and day
Cause I know I just can’t stay
Here in heaven
Time can bring you down
Time can bend your knee
Time can break your heart
Have you begging please
Begging please
(instrumental)
Beyond the door
There’s peace I’m sure.
And I know there’ll be no more…
Tears in heaven
Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven
Will it be the same
If I saw you in heaven
I must be strong, and carry on
Cause I know I don’t belong
Here in heaven
Cause I know I don’t belong
Here in heaven

The Beatles “Hey Jude” was written by Paul McCartney in 1968 as the first single from their very own label, Apple Records. The song evolved from “Hey Jules” which was written for John Lennon’s son Julian during John and Cynthia Lennons divorce. It spent nine weeks as number one in the U.S.
Hey Jude, don’t make it bad.
Take a sad song and make it better.
Remember to let her into your heart,
Then you can start to make it better.
Hey Jude, don’t be afraid.
You were made to go out and get her.
The minute you let her under your skin,
Then you begin to make it better.
And anytime you feel the pain, hey Jude, refrain,
Don’t carry the world upon your shoulders.
For well you know that it’s a fool who plays it cool
By making his world a little colder.
Hey Jude, don’t let me down.
You have found her, now go and get her.
Remember to let her into your heart,
Then you can start to make it better.
So let it out and let it in, hey Jude, begin,
You’re waiting for someone to perform with.
And don’t you know that it’s just you, hey Jude, you’ll do,
The movement you need is on your shoulder.
Hey Jude, don’t make it bad.
Take a sad song and make it better.
Remember to let her under your skin,
Then you’ll begin to make it
Better better better better better better, oh.
Bob Marley’s Redemption Song is the final song on his album ‘Uprising’ in 1979. The lyrics are derived from a speech given by Jamaican publisher, journalist, entrepreneur and orator Marcus Garvey. Rita Marley has said about this song “he was already secretly in a lot of pain and dealt with his own mortality, a feature that is clearly apparent in the album, particularly in this song”.
Old pirates, yes, they rob I
Sold I to the merchant ships
Minutes after they took I
From the bottomless pit
But my hand was made strong
By the hand of the almighty
We forward in this generation
Triumphantly
Won’t you help to sing
These songs of freedom?
‘Cause all I ever have
Redemption songs
Redemption songs
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery
None but ourselves can free our minds
Have no fear for atomic energy
‘Cause none of them can stop the time
How long shall they kill our prophets
While we stand aside and look? Ooh
Some say it’s just a part of it
We’ve got to fulfill the book
Won’t you help to sing
These songs of freedom?
‘Cause all I ever have
Redemption songs
Redemption songs
Redemption songs
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery
None but ourselves can free our mind
Woh, have no fear for atomic energy
‘Cause none of them-a can-a stop-a the time
How long shall they kill our prophets
While we stand aside and look?
Yes, some say it’s just a part of it
We’ve got to fulfill the book
Won’t you help to sing
These songs of freedom?
‘Cause all I ever had
Redemption songs
All I ever had
Redemption songs
These songs of freedom
Songs of freedom
This song is based on Jeremy Wade Delle, a 15 year old who shot himself in front of his English class on January 8, 1991. Delle was described by schoolmates as “real quiet” and known for “acting sad.” After coming in to class late that morning, Delle was told to get an admittance slip from the school office. He left the classroom, and returned with a .357 Magnum revolver. Delle walked to the front of the classroom, announced “Miss, I got what I really went for”, put the barrel of the firearm in his mouth, and pulled the trigger before his teacher or classmates could react.
At home, drawing pictures of mountain tops
With him on top lemon yellow sun, arms raised in a v
And the dead lay in pools of maroon below
Daddy didn’t give attention
Oh, to the fact that mommy didn’t care
King Jeremy the wicked…oh, ruled his world…
Jeremy spoke in class today…
Clearly I remember pickin’ on the boy
Seemed a harmless little fuck
Ooh, but we unleashed a lion…
Gnashed his teeth and bit the recess lady’s breast…
How can I forget?
And he hit me with a surprise left
My jaw left hurtin’…ooh, dropped wide open
Just like the day…oh, like the day I heard
Daddy didn’t give affection, no…
And the boy was something that mommy wouldn’t wear
King Jeremy the wicked…oh, ruled his world
Jeremy spoke in class today…
Try to forget this…try to forget this…
Try to erase this…try to erase this…
from the blackboard…
I’ll be starting a new posting series that I’ll call Greatest Lyrics. It will be lyrics that I think (and many others) are some of the greatest ever written. I’ll also post the video (if available). I think this will be just as fun and interesting as the other series I post such as Music Fact TidBit, Music Quote TidBit and Classic Pics.
