Tool Catalog is Finally Online

Finally!  Tool has put all of their albums online available for streaming.  I used to go to YouTube to listen to the albums (If I didn’t have it available from my own collection) so I’m very happy about this.  Maynard James Keenan says:

“Our obsession with, and dream of, a world where BetaMax and Laser Disc rule has ended. Time for us to move on. But never fear. There’s a brand new thing we think you’re really gonna dig. It’s called Digital Downloads and Streaming. Get ready for the future, folks!”

A few hours after the albums were released on iTunes, all of their albums were on the iTunes Top 10!

Perry Farrell’s New Solo Album

Perry Farrell, formerly of Jane’s Addiction and Lollapalooza fame, has put out a solo album; his first since 2001. The album is titled ‘Kind Heaven’ and includes performances by Tommy Lee, Dhani Harrison, Taylor Hawkins, Elliot Easton from The Cars, and Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney.

Farrell recently told SPIN Magazine:

“I believe completely in astral projection. I also believe that a spirit can come and talk to you when you’re sleeping. I completely believe that in that moment, more subtle energies are allowed to mingle. We can learn things.”

iTunes is Dead!

I haven’t really used iTunes in the past 5-7 years so I’m not so worried about this.  Apple is replacing iTunes with new individual apps.  iTunes Music Store will operate in the sidebar in the music app and will continue to exist on Windows.

They are breaking up into podcasts, TV Shows and movies.  These 3 apps will launch in the next version of Mac OS, named ‘Catalina’, coming later this fall.

Since this is pretty big, I’ll leave the link to the full story on Billboard.com

Pandora – New Plans Available

Pandora has made some interesting changes to their plans.  First was the ‘Family Plan’ for $14.99 for up to six family members.  Now they are offering a ‘Student Plan’ for $4.99 per month and a ‘Military Plan’ for $7.99 per month.

Great move for Pandora.

Microsoft to Give Up Streaming Music

Microsoft could have purchased Spotify for $16 billion but now, they are leaving the streaming to Spotify alone.  Rather than purchase the company, they are expanding their relationship with Spotify.  Groove Music customers can move all of their playlists and collections directly into Spotify.  Here’s what Groove Music says:

*An update to the Groove Music app including the ability to move music to Spotify, will be available for Windows Insiders beginning this week (10/2/17). The Groove Music app update for Windows 10 and Xbox One devices will roll out broadly the week of October 9, 2017and will enable Groove Music Pass customers to move existing music collections and playlists to Spotify. Groove Music Pass content will be available to move to Spotify until at least January 31, 2018.

This is one of the songs on their upcoming album titled Under Cover which they cover songs by The Ramones, Judas Priest, Ozzy, Bowie and others.  The tracks were recorded during various studio sessions between 1992 and 2015.
