Get your dose of music news on the musicians and bands that shape your world. I'll run down news from every style of music along with tour info, new albums and the twisted business side of music.
It looks like Erykah Badu’s next album “New Amerykah, Part II: Return of the Anhk” will be coming out on March 30th, later than previously planned. Production will come from 9th Wonder, J Dilla, Madlib and others. Should be a good one.
After 20 years, The Specials recently got back together and will begin a North American tour in April. They are starting by appearing on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” on April 13th. Get this, their last time they performed in the US was in 1980 when they appeared on ‘Saturday Night Live’. Damn that’s going to be sweet.
D.R.I.’s 1987 album Crossover is due for a reissue on April 13th. It will come out in digital, LP and CD formats and was remastered by Bill Metoyer who was the original engineer on the album in 1987. There will also be 6 live tracks, 2 demos and 3 interviews.
Not that I ever went to it but there is going to be some great people playing in this tour. Beginning this summer the tour will have a ton of artists including Cat Power, Corinne Bailey Rae, Emmylou Harris, Erykah Badu, Indigo Girls, Jill Scott, Ke$ha, Loretta Lynn, Mary J. Blige and tons more. They will be hitting most of the big cities here in the US. More information will be coming.
The White Stripes will be releasing their first ever live album on cd and vinyl. This was from their 2007 summer tour in Canada they did. Also they are putting out a documentary called “Under Great White Northern Lights” which documents their journey through this tour in Canada. Should be pretty cool.
James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem put up a video which documents the making of his third album. The video shows the mansion that he moved into to make the album since he says “I always have to live where I’m recording, to make an LCD record I have to live there, because otherwise I get distracted by stuff.” Check it out.
Scorpions have stated on their website that they are ending their career after their next album coming out in March. After they release “Sting In The Tail” they will go on a tour in Germany then all over the world for the next couple years then shut it down. It’s probably time.
France’s NRJ Awards in Cannes happened over this past weekend and at first they told Black Eyed Peas that they had won an award. But an error had happened (like why are they even nominated since I think their music is GARBAGE!). The award actually should have went to Tokio Hotel. That’s great. I’m just so sick of them and their auto tuner crap.
The Specials are putting out a live DVD from their 30th Anniversary Tour from their performance at Wolverhampton Civic Hall back in November 2009. Aside from the performance there is also rehearsals, backstage footage and interviews.
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is happening again this year from April 16 to April 18 in Indio California. The big names this year is Jay-Z, LCD Soundsystem, Muse, Faith No More, Gorillaz, Thom Yorke and Pavement. There are a crap load more bands. Check their site: Coachella
