Rapper C-Murder Sentence Upheld

Back in 2002 C-Murder was convicted of shooting a 16 year old to death.  His attorneys appealed stating the judge who presided over his trial allowed jurors to hear unsubstantiated testimony and that the prosecutors eliminated black people from the jury.

The 5th Circuit rejected those arguments and the murder conviction and life sentence stands.

Yikes.

Frampton Suing A&M Records

Similar to Eminem and The Knack’s lawsuits, Peter Frampton is suing Universal Music Group owned A&M Records for unpaid royalties, breach of contract and unfair competition.  The basis is the way royalties are calculated for digital sales against licensed sales.  Frampton is expecting 50% of net receipts which he says is for his licensed sales.  Digital sales have a much lower royalty rate.

Metallica SF Giants Inspired Gear

OK, I’m a huge SF Giants fan and of course love Metallica.  Never thought there would be a combination of the two but it looks like its coming.  Earlier this month they were at The Fillmore in San Francisco for their 30th anniversary tour for fan club members only and their was some new clothing for sale.  They aren’t for sale yet at their site yet but it’s coming.   Pretty sick!

Fake Rap Label Scores Drugs/Guns

Just amazing. The Washington D.C. police force and the ATF set up a fake rap label then put the word out that they were looking for drugs and guns. After a year long investigation, here’s what they got:

70 suspects arrested
161 firearms
80 pounds of METH
21 pounds of cocaine

Unbelievable.

Vince Leaving Motley Crue?

What? That sounds so ridiculous but Vince Neil has told Robin Leach of The Las Vegas Sun that he’s thinking about leaving Motley Crue after their short residency in Las Vegas in February.

“I’m having a great time here — I could stay a year! I’m sitting on my yacht, contemplating my future, and I’m not sure it will be with Motley Crue after Las Vegas. Great things are coming up and pushing me in another direction.”

Testament/Anthrax Tour

They’re coming around again.  They loved the first part of this tour so they are continuing into the new year.  The tour begins on January 22 in Las Vegas and will continue for three weeks with Death Angel being the main support.

Anthraxs Scott Ian said “The first leg of the tour with Testament and Death Angel was an amazing way to end a great year for Anthrax and it went above and beyond my expectations! Sold out shows, raging crowds and EPIC war dances! So we figured what better way to start 2012 than to continue this thrash-fest into the new year!!! Thank you all for giving us this privilege to come and play for you. See you soon!”

27 Club – Musicians Who Died at 27

A while back people starting noticing that 27 seemed to be the strange age that music legends passed on. Then it really sunk in when Any Winehouse died back in July at….27. I’ve done some research and made a list of the musical people who have passed at 27:

Robert Johnson (1911-1938) Not really discovered until the 60’s, he was a blues singer and guitarist that only recorded 29 songs between 1936 & 1937. He was allegedly poisoned by a lover’s jealous boyfriend or husband.

Brian Jones (1942-1969) Founding member of the Rolling Stones, he had a severe substance abuse problem that forced him out of the group. A month after being kicked out of the Stones, he was found at the bottom of his swimming pool.

Alan Wilson (1943-1970) A member of Canned Heat, Alan had poor vision and struggled with mental illness. After previously attempting suicide he finally died of a drug overdose.

Jimi Hendrix (1942-1970) He needs no explanation. Probably the greatest guitarist to ever live, he died asphyxiating on his own vomit while sleeping.

Janis Joplin (1943-1970) First as the lead singer of Big Brother and the Holding Company then as a solo artist, she unfortunately got addicted to heroin and alcohol and died of an overdose, less than 3 weeks after Jimi Hendrix.

Jim Morrison (1943-1971) Lead singer of The Doors and also a poet and an avid reader of philosophy. Addicted to alcohol and heroin, he died of a heart attack caused by a heroin overdose.

Ron “Pigpen” McKernan (1945-1973) Founding member of the Grateful Dead. Even though he wasn’t into LSD or other drugs, his drinking caused him to develop cirrhosis and died of an internal hemorrhage.

Kurt Cobain (1967-1994) Founding member and singer of Nirvana, he struggled with mental illness, chronic health problems and heroin addiction. He committed suicide in the garage of his home.

Amy Winehouse (1983-2011) Her songs were a great mix of R&B, soul and Jazz and was just at the start of her career.  Unfortunately Amy battled drug and alcohol abuse for many years. She was found dead in her London apartment.

New PiL Album

It’s been almost 20 years since the last PiL album (That What is Not) and finally Johnny Lydon (Rotten) announced that a new album is coming out. Lydon says that money has been the key issue why a new album hasn’t come out.

“I was always full of ideas, but I had to wait until I had enough money to release an album. Everybody thinks I made such a fortune with the Sex Pistols. Well, unfortunately that is not true. To make this record we had to tour extensively for two years.”

The album will come out around the spring of 2012.
